The Bands

Celeste Kellogg

Rarely can someone be labeled a seasoned performer at age 15, but Celeste Kellogg is an exception.  In the span of only a few years, Celeste has distinguished herself as a talented pop/country vocalist.  A veteran of Radio Disney, Celeste has shared the stage with some of today’s most talented young artists including the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Kelly Clarkson. Her musical and acting abilities will soon be showcased in a feature film entitled Much Ado About Middle School. In the country music world, Celeste is known as much for her singing prowess as for her work ethic.  Many are awaiting great things from her in the years to come. We are so pleased to have this rising star on hand for the Concert for Malawi.

Nellie Tiger Travis

A highlight of the last Concert for Malawi was a cameo appearance by Nellie Tiger Travis, and we are pleased that she will be joining us again this August.  A veteran of the Chicago blues scene, Ms. Travis has performed her unique brand of blues and soul at venues across America and abroad.  She has shared the stage with several living blues legends including Buddy Guy and Koko Taylor and is no stranger to accolades herself.  Ms. Travis has headlined both the Chicago Blues Festival and the BB King Homecoming.  A CDS recording artist, she has several outstanding albums to her name; her most recent CD entitled I’m A Woman garnered a 2008 “Best Female Vocal” Award from Blues Critic Media. We are so grateful that Nellie is returning to Williamsburg for this event, and we look forward to another outstanding performance.

Blues Empacts

Blues Empacts is Virginia’s most respected and acclaimed blues bands, and the Concert for Malawi is proud to have such distinguished veterans of the state music scene on its bill.  The Empacts have entertained crowds across the state for many years, most recently at Hampton's Bay Days.  This experienced team of bluesmen includes  Larry Williams on drums, Bob Albergotti on harmonica, “Dirty Red” on vocals, and Bill Kelly on bass.  If you’re hungry for some classic blues from some fellas who know it the best, be sure to check out Blues Empacts.

Jackie Scott and the Housewreackers

Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers have local roots that make Hampton Roads home.  Coming from varied backgrounds  and influences makes  for a hot combination of blues, jazz and r&b packed with soul when you encounter and fall under the power of Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers.

Jackie has spent the last few years honing her craft as a vocalist and her quest lead her to the steamy windows of  Chicago's blues scene.

Opening for BB King & Taj Mahal has definitely been a plus .   Touring trips to Mississippi, Lousiana & California and performing with Nellie "Tiger" Travis at the 2007 Chicago Blues Festival , have all played a part in making Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers the ultimate entertainment machine

Emerald Storm

Emerald Storm is an instrumental rock fusion band, driven by hard rock guitar playing of Rendell Gary. Emerald Storm was founded in 2000 by Idell Brown (bass), and Rendell Gary. Later on Mr. Shannon Uzzle came in on drums and Mr. David Turner on Percussions. The band offers a unique sound of its own. Mostly being guitar driven, it crosses the lines of Satriani, Vai, and some Santana. The album Egyptian Sunrise was composed to give a sound of the Egyptians getting together with an african tribe to create the ultimate dimensional rock jams. Since the birth of Emerald Storm, 5 years ago, the band has recorded a second CD, which will be ready for release in the near future. The guitarist, Rendell Gary has been playing guitar since the age of 12, his influences include Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhodes, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Mr. Shannon Uzzle, who is a drum god adds to Emerald Storms sound. With his bashing, thunderish drumming, he completes the driven force behind Emerald Storm's powerful sound. Emerald Storms sound is a sound you do not want to miss, if you are into heavy rock guitar, you don't want to miss the storm. -Emerald Storm

Sleeping Giants

Sleeping Giants is one of the area’s most talented classic rock and blues bands.  Since their inception in Mechanicsville in 2006, the band has been wowing crowds with their toe-taping, feel-good renditions of 60s and 70s classic rock favorites (Tom Petty, the Beatles, Cream, the Rolling Stones, etc.) and Chicago style blues standards.  The group features Solomon Miles on lead vocals, Rob Wren on lead guitar, Curtis Prousalis on rhythm guitarist and vocals, Ed Bray on bass, and Paul Prousalis on drums and vocals.  Sleeping Giants combines a passion for music with an aim to please.  We are excited to have this audience favorite on board for the concert.
